The hotter the better !

At the beginning of the school year, I start my English KS2 class with an interviewing assignment. I pair students together. I give students an outline form with interview questions that students ask each other. After the interview, students create a magazine style article. Students will orally present their interview and interviewee to the entire class. I then publish the interviews, along with photos that students take of each other in our classroom newsletter.

This technique helps students learn interviewing skills and basic editing skills. This is an easy way for students to learn to work together on projects, and to break the ice at the beginning of the year. I use this lesson as an early assessment tool of oral and written skills, and I set the ground rules for future teamwork.
